HCCS Faculty

Librarians are available to support your instruction by assisting students in developing research skills in class “orientations” to the library and/or one-on-one library instruction . The skills taught by librarians help students learn how to access quality resources, extract what is useful and relevant  and critically evaluate a seemingly infinite array of information sources.

We have identified the basic skills needed to successfully navigate the information morass as falling into three categories: To be able to—

  • Know what the LIBRARY CATALOG is and how to search it.

  • Distinguish between an ONLINE SUBSCRIPTION DATABASE OF PERIODICAL ARTICLES and an INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE

  • Recognize the difference between SCHOLARLY AND POPULAR JOURNALS

Please contact me if I can support or collaborate with you in creating assignments involving timely and relevant library research that will enhance your students' learning.
